The historically-significant 1884 De Dion Bouton et Trepardoux Dos-a-Dos Steam Runabout has sold at auction for US$4.62 million on 07-Oct-2011. Apart from being the winner of the first automobile race in history, it's also the world's oldest running motor car, and now also the most valuable early motor car yet sold at auction. RM Auctions began the bidding at US$500,000 with the vehicle attracting a steady stream of bidders as the price immediately jumped to US$1,000,000 and moved swiftly past the expected price of US$2.5 million, with the gavel eventually falling at US$4,200,000 (includes 10% buyers' premium). The new owner joins an elite list of just five collectors to have owned the 127 year-old vehicle. Dont miss the auction video at the end! [Source]
