I was with my friend went to Mannar while in SriLanka. We used a shortcut way to reach our destination and ended up at a very beautiful beach area which is overlooking the western part of the Indian Ocean. Accidentally we saw a 'Haunted house' which was the house of the first British Governor Frederick North. Due to intense wave erosion, the sea-ward part of the double-storey structure had fallen onto the beach. The red brick inner structure is all that is left and it remains as a ‘ruins’. Built at a stone cast distance from the sea, the mention had four small bedrooms on the floor with the flight of stairs at the center & had one large dining hall with his excellency's bed chamber on its first floor. Planned by the governor himself, the design was purely by the 'Doric' and was build in 1804. It is being considered as an antique and protected by Srilankan Government.
