Because of most of the Chinese food is stir, fried or boiled, industrial designer Juan Restrepo wanted to incorporate a beautiful yet functional fan into the modern kitchen. As we keep filling our living spaces with technology and electronics, the designer wanted to keep some type of organic inspiration in the kitchen both functional and aesthetic. Much smaller than the average kitchen exhaust fan, what Nest lacks in size it makes up for in smart functionality. The oval-shaped fan hangs delicately over freestanding stoves without obtruding open space. The unit itself detects smoke with a sensor that triggers the vents to open and begin working, making it completely hands-free. The unique vent pattern is highly effective in absorbing smoke from 360° rather than only from directly below.
