Lady Shifting is a new device that assists with the transfer of immobile individuals and elderly people from their wheelchairs to their beds and vice versa. It makes use of the lever principle and prevents the carer from bearing the individual’s weight. It is needed to shift people from wheelchairs to beds many times a day, which can place them at great risk of back injury and it can also be uncomfortable for the patient. Lady Shifting resolves these problems by bearing the weight of the patient.

The transfer of a patient involves placing their feet on Lady Shifting’s black base and aligning their knees with the lower part of the cushion. Then, the patient lays over the rounded frame and cushion. While holding the patient’s arms, the carer levers the device to raise the patient, stabilising it with their foot. After Lady Shifting is manoeuvred to the bed, it is brought back to a vertical position and the patient slides down to the bed. Then, the carer can assist the patient with laying down.
