Skype update finally brings iPhone calling!

Skype has just released a long awaited software update to their Apple iPhone app. The new version, 2.0.0, now supports 3G calling. Full improvements include:

Call using your 3G connection. Skype-to-Skype calls on 3G are free until at least end of August 2010, after which there will be a small monthly fee (operator charges for data will still apply).

Near CD-quality sound for Skype-to-Skype calls using wideband audio (SILK codec) on iPhone 3GS and 2nd generation iPhone touch.

Enhanced call quality indicator.

Improved start-up time.

Fast access to the dial pad from iPhone home screen.

The only thing users need to watch out for is if you’re on a pay as you go SIM, and you don’t have unlimited data connection, then you want to watch out. Also the ’small monthly fee’ is abit vague, we’ll update when we find out how much exactly that will be…
