Solar powered giant walking pod robot is a unique creation designed by a commercial welder, Scott Parenteau and presented at last month's Maker Faire in San Francisco. This mammoth walking pod inspired by his love for geodesic dome designs and Theo Jansen's Strandbeest machines. This lumbering robot gracefully strolls across the pavement, powered by two commercial dishwasher gear motors and 12 creepy crab-like legs. The vehicle runs on 800 watts of power, assisted by a roof-mounted solar panel to trickle charge its batteries, as well as a wind turbine for a little extra boost. Made from scrap material and the weight measured is 1,800 pounds but travels at 0.02 miles per hour.
