This week, Google announced the long-awaited second generation Pixel smartphones - the Google Pixel 2 and the Google Pixel 2 XL. One of the main features is the Google Lens which is launched in a preview state on both the devices. Google Lens is a set of vision based computing capabilities which can analyse the details of what you see through your camera. Google Lens is basically allowing you to search using images, Google Assistant will identify the thing, person, or place that it is and bring up relevant information that might include a Wikipedia entry or a map location.
The idea with the product is to leverage Google’s computer vision and AI technology in order to bring smarts directly to your phone’s camera. Then smartphone camera can see beyond what you see.

There were some demo's shown during Google’s I/O developer conference which explained how the Google lens work. One demos was when your Google lens is pointed at something through your mobile phones camera, lens can explain what exactly it is. For example, when you point it to a flower, it will tell what flower it is. The other demo was about connecting to the WiFi just by scanning the sticker placed on the router. And another demo was about the business information. When the camera lens is pointed to a store or business, it can bring the store name, rating and some other information in a card that appeared over the photo.

The Google lens was promised to be integrated with Google Assistant and Google Photos. Although xda-developers discovered the way to use the Google lens feature with Google photos last month and this week, they found the way to enable Google lens in Google Assistant on rooted mobile devices, Google somehow patched all of these method they have discovered.

Google Lens can identify Artwork, Barcodes, Books, Buildings, Landmarks, Media covers, Movies, Music albums, Paintings, Places, Points of Interest, Statues and Video games. And it can add contacts from a business card, perform language translation, look up product information, open web addresses in your browser, plant and animal identification and save dates to your calendar from a poster.
